Israel’s Shepherd!

What did the wise men do on seeing the star in the East, why? vv.1-6; 10-11

On seeing the star in the East

1. The wise men came searching in Jerusalem for He who has been born King

2. They saw the young Child with Mary His mother & fell down & worshiped Him

3. They opened their treasures & presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense & myrrh

They did this because they recognised that Jesus is the King, whose star they pursued, & as per the priests & scribes He is the Ruler & the Shepherd of Israel

To do*:

Let’s

1. Pursue & seek for Jesus

2. Draw near to Him

3. Worship Him, offering our best to Him

Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself & said, "I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days & have nothing to eat, & I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way."

Matthew 15:32

Today’s Bible Study:

Seven large baskets full!

Why did Jesus have compassion on the multitude?

Jesus had compassion on the multitiude because they continued with Him for three days & had nothing to eat. Jesus didn’t want to send them hungry, lest they faint on the way

To do*:

How did Jesus respond in compassion to the multitude?

Jesus

1. Shared His compasion for the multitude to His disciples

2. Inquired of the quantity of loaves they had

3. Commanded the multitude to sit down

4. Took the loaves & fish from the disciples & gave thanks

5. Broke it & gave them to His disciples, who gave it to the multitude (four thousand men, besides women & children)

Thus the whole multitude ate & were filled & they took seven large baskets full of leftover fragments

In remembrance of Christ!

When, & why did Christ institute the Holy Communion?

On the same night in which Christ was betrayed, He instituted the Holy Communion because whenever His disciples came together for fellowship, He wanted them to remember His sufferings on their behalf

To do*:

How are we to fellowship (have Holy Communion) in a worthy manner?

In fellowship (Holy Communion), let’s

1. Remember Christ & His sufferings to renew our covenant with Him vv.23-26

2. Examine ourselves, so that we do not become guilty of the body & blood of Jesus vv.27-28

3. Discern the Lord’s body, the church, being one in the body of Christ v.29

Read I Corinthians 11:23-32; 10:16-17; Romans 5:8

A. How was the lame man healed?

1. On seeing Peter & John, the lame man asked for alms

2. But Peter offered him the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth

3. Peter took him by the hand & lifted him up, immediately his feet & ankle bones received strength

B. What did Peter have with him to give to the lame man?

Peter had Jesus of Nazareth

What can we give to the needy around us?

Let’s

1. See the needy around & know that all they need is Jesus

2. Give them the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth

3. Take the step of faith to help them to depend on Jesus’ name

Whose cause this trouble!

Why did the mariners cast lots?

The mariners cast lots, because

1. The Lord had sent out a great wind & tempest on the sea, & the ship was about to be broken up

2. The mariners were about to die

3. They wanted to know, for whose cause this trouble had come upon them

Times now:

Chaos among nations, bloodshed, famine, poverty, depression & suicide

Cause:

We the church have fallen short of the mandate of God

To do*:

How can we save the lives of those around us?

Let’s

1. Confess & repent of our disobedience & obey God’s voice

2. Go where God sends us

3. Speak God’s word & save the lives of the people

You shall speak My words to them, whether they hear, or whether they

refuse, for they are rebellious

Ezekiel 2:7

Speak My words to them!

Why did God send Ezekiel to Israel? vv.4-5

God send Ezekiel to the people of Israel to be a watchman to speak His

words, for

1. Israel was rebellious, impudent & stubborn to God

2. God wanted to give them sufficient chances to hear His word & return to Him

3. He wanted them to know that there was a prophet among them

To do*:

What is God’s word for us?

Let’s

1. Repent of all our rebellion, return & listen to God vv.1, 2

2. Eat/abide/obey God’s word v.8

3. Speak God’s word (the gospel of Jesus Christ) to the people around,

whether they hear or refuse vv.4, 7

Today’s Memory Verse:

Now I saw a new heaven & a new earth, for the first heaven & the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea

Revelation 21:1

Today’s Bible Study:

New heaven & new earth!

What had happened to the first heaven & first earth?

1. God, the righteous judge, is on His white throne of judgment (20:11)

2. The first heaven & the first earth fled away (20:11)

3. The sea, Death, & Hades gave up their dead (20:13)

4. The dead stood before God (20:12)

5. Books were opened & the book of life (20:12)

6. God judged each one as it was written, according to their works (20:12,13)

7. Death, Hades, & those whose were not found written in the book of life were cast into the lake of fire (20:14-15)

To do*:

How can we enter the new heaven & new earth? (21:1-8)

Let’s

1. Believe in Jesus

2. Walk in obedience to His word

3. Overcome the world

We will have our name in the book of life to enter the new heaven & new earth
